The Most Frequently Asked Questions

Contact Me

"Where are the lessons?"

I am based in Mapperley Park, Nottingham - 3 minutes from the city centre, where I teach from my dedicated studio.

"When do you teach?"

Monday through to Saturday

"How young can a student begin?"

Children can start playing guitar at a very young age, but I've found structured lessons are best suited to children who are eight years and older.

"What guitar should I buy for a beginner?"

A beginner's acoustic guitar can be bought for around £80 and an electric and amp package for £100-150. Please feel free to ring me or email and l can help you pick the right instrument.

"Do I have to read music?"

No. I do teach standard notation but to get the ball rolling a simple form of notation called TAB is a way to translate most lead and rhythm guitar styles and techniques.

"How often should I have lessons?"

Ideally beginners would have lessons on a weekly basis.

"Do I need to own a guitar before I start?"

No, the student is welcome to use one of my guitars for the first few lessons this can be useful to see if they are going to take to it.

Going forward if the student chooses to continue past this stage, they'll need their own guitar. Without consistent practice at home, their playing will not progress from lesson to lesson.

"How much practice should I do?"

This depends on how fast the student wants to progress. The rule of thumb is as ever - a little and often.
